Here is this week’s extract. It is the usual mixture of Welsh words and strange concepts. But at the very least The Butter Mouse sets a creative challenge that is fun and tactile. I am pleased with the results on my cards, and you can see my creations on all the posts this month.
In terms of the theory I mentioned last week, here is something I noticed. He keeps referring to old technology. Based on what comes next I might have an idea of what this all means. It is still early days, so I do not want to post anything yet in case everything changes.
My apologies for the language used here around mental health in this section of the book. Please remember I am quoting a text which is showing its age, and his words are less sensitive than I would like.
‘Anvils! People are always going on about anvils aren't they? Always trying to find the latest anvil. Well don't worry folks, this week's exercise takes on a much lighter form. All you will need is your cards, and a pleasant trip to the art shop.
Have you ever heard of a Rorschach test? I am sure you have. If you haven't, do not worry, we are not performing one anyway. We are shaking hands with him, and saying bore da.
There is no need to check your encyclopedia. Let The Butter Mouse explain for you. Some bloke called Rorschach chucked around a load of ink on some paper, and his patients told him what they thought the marks looked like. This determined if you were crazy or not. Crazy eh?
We are not doing that. Or even using ink. But you get the idea.
Here we go!
Draw your cards for the month. Then buy some paint. Any paint will do, but no need for oils, unless you want to. Cheap poster stuff will do.
Arrange your cards in two rows (horizontally or vertically, either is gwych), and put a blob of paint on each one. Then place one card on top of each other twice, so you have two card sandwiches. Don’t eat them, they are just for fun!
Smudge them around a bit, and use the sides of the cards to cut through the paint. You must not use paintbrushes, or any device designed for painting. But apart from that, go crazy! Go as crazy as Roschach!
When you are finished, pull them apart, and look at the shapes and symbols found on your painted cards. Intercept however you want. Herein lies your next story, pulled from your subconscious, divined from mystic symbols inscribed in paint.
We are getting closer to the secret! How exciting! Soon your future will be set in iron! Pob Lwc, and don't get your table stained!’
