How strange that a mere two writing tasks remain. The broken juggling ball on my desk reminds me the year is fading away.
Clarity is essential. To make sure we are all on track this week's blog lays out what we have learnt this year. This is not in the order of events, but the order that ties them together.
Good excuse to stay inside now. I will not be visiting anyone, inside or out.
Time to lay down our clues.
1) Clifton Gorge was once part of a series of tropical islands. Hence the dinosaur. This means giants did not carve out the landmark. Fact meets fiction, and we’ve had a vision of both. But how?
2) Three iron age settlements sit in a line that crosses the river. Was the axe I created a spade?
3)The faint noise of the Troubadour Club. Music hopping from one note to another. The ground pulling away.
4) Clouds on fire above the bridge. Unknown animals calling from Bristol Zoo. Both beyond their natural abilities, and yet a physical reality.
5) People flick between their time and ours. Most appear to be dressed for a walk down the street. But what about the boy with the cricket bat? What about Blackbeard in the graveyard?
6)The balls fly through the air. Once there were three, and now there are two. Where is the missing one?
7) I shuffled the cards for an hour. When you work that hard, all of the cards will end up somewhere new.
8) The Butter Mouse used to live in Clifton. There is clear evidence he existed, and my memories of him are correct. However, I cannot find anything about him since then, and there has been no response to the callout in this blog.
9) His constant use of Welsh, despite his book having an intrinsic connection to Bristol.
10) The time I saw the Butter Mouse looking so sad. Wanting to be somewhere else.
There we go.My plan is settled. But we still more knowledge to get there.
Will I have everything I need in six weeks time?
Extract follows next week.
