There is an easy way to cope with a job you do not like. Pretend.
Turn the workplace into a game of make believe. When I worked in a call centre, I imagined each car insurance sale was a beautiful bird, caught by hand and slung in a sack for my dinner. My colleagues might have toiled in a basement office, but I was deep in the jungle, hunting exotic wildfowl.
Be warned though. I suggested this technique to my friend Ron, when he drunkenly confessed he did not want to be a fireman any more. His colleagues told me the last time they saw him, he ran into a burning building, shouting his spacesuit was invincible, and no heat source in the known galaxy could stop him.
So if you are a depressed fireman, I recommend the doctor.
