Day One Hundred And Ninety One: Spreading Fire

Something about that last attack spread the news across the country.  More posts online carry the footage than any of the previous ones. I think the use of the military vehicle unlocked memories in a lot of brains.

Regardless of your thought on this week’s victims, past times mean a lot to so many people. I hate to say so, but whoever the Butter Mouse is, they rule at visual imagery.  Mum cannot tell me to turn off everything.

This is not the city I know. Mum tells me stories about when she was younger, and the buses did not run to schedule, let alone fly. Before the Stitch, and the solar panels. How the idea of going for a solo midnight cherry ice at the mall was an impossibility.

Returning to a time like that would be like pouring oil in a river. Yet the video of screaming passengers makes me worry that this could happen in weeks with a few wrong steps.

Imagine the city without flowers. What would be the point?

Maybe going off world is a good idea after all. I should run deep into the rainforest, and let the sloths fall from the ceiling, and the snakes wrap around my ankles.

Called Deni tonight. We chat most days since the last attack. Tonight they were wandering along the beach by themselves. Past the stands and the funfair rides, to way over the dunes, where the lights of the city are stars. I tell them to be careful.

‘I don’t think the crabs are hungry for scrap metal.’ They messaged back.

In every way they are right. Why shouldn’t they walk along there after sunset? I have it done it myself so many times. If you walk far enough you can find a place where the turtles are big enough to carry you on their back.

Not that Deni will go in the water.

Perhaps I should tell them to watch out for the waves.

I am going to ask them out to dinner tomorrow. I will order something small, so they do not have to sit around watching.

A police car flew past the house today. The first one I have seen in a long while. They must be looking for the Butter Mouse.

Not my Butter Mouse of course.

I watch today’s clip, and keep the windows closed.

Clip: More footage from the vehicle. I wonder what lies at the end of the journey. That last shot is so beautiful though. Will we ever conquer interdimensional travel? I hope so.
