Day Twenty-Four: Oil Spill

Plant duty today. Mum told me again how much water they used to need. About the crucial role of reservoirs and desalination plants. I always think that vegetation and buildings join together like the ocean and the beach. Hard to think of the maintenance of either causing trouble, or a clash.

Even then we had a busy morning. Link said Deni needed to join me. Flowers cover the Stitch, and although we required less than four drops per plant, we still had to be mindful of thorns and the like. Well, I did. Deni plunged their hands in, covering them in earth up to the wrist. They did not even wipe them off afterwards. At lunchtime they left grimy trails on the table. I know their limbs are made of metal, but do they really not feel that? Is it not uncomfortable for them that people stare?

Perhaps I was grumpy. Lunch break was appreciated. I ate my salad and drank my cherry ice. Link had something with noodles. Deni traced a finger in the soil.

Weird I remember that. But it was during the meal that I saw the footage from downtown.

Link kept the screen on every lunch break. Good to separate ourselves from the customers with downtime he said. Relax with stories on store openings and recycling drives. But today we heard about the bodies. Something about the hands getting severed off. Found in a line in the palm trees near the mall. Trails of oil between them.

Would they have made such casual announcements if the victims had been human?

Link spoke with his mouth full of food. ‘Did you see what they are calling the suspect? The Butter Mouse! Apparently he had some kind of banana yellow jacket on. So they are saying he looks like the Butter Mouse! Ridiculous.;

I don’t think he thought about Deni as he spoke. If I had been braver, I would have turned the screen off. But if they were upset, they did not respond. They did not even start with the radiator noise.

Hopefully a one off.

Feel a bit sad uploading the clip tonight. One more thing the victims will never get to watch. Glad to explore a different world today.

Clip: More footage of a city, and a tower maybe? Do not understand the chirping noises, they are definitely not sounds the Butter Mouse makes.
